I started out from Iola and decided to go NW into Coffey County. I caught an emerging sup as it began to wall up around LeRoy, KS. At first, it had a pretty decent updraft and I could see scud being drawn into at a rather rapid pace. However, it just couldn't get free of other convection and died a cold rainy death. I then headed south toward Humboldt, KS and some Tor warned storms. I had no live data and made some bad decisions on roads and position and never found myself in an area to see anything else of consequence. I decided to head home around dark.

When I went to sleep around 11:30 I knew a nice line of storms was racing my way. I was awoken at 1 AM by howling winds and trash cans rolling down the street I went to the window and saw some incredible winds. I would estimate at least 60-65.

Decent day with some excitement.

Here area some pics of the wall cloud and sunset below:

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM89ZAL8ckTe8PpDZJGeWYN5ZleQah1Y69JGjsNRMn2LTtsDHiRtNLp_0hMvvCDMgIq7Xzq-VN4ohgoHLmjSLYa6vytpDj1779vNkgPZ81TqjmsM0Fv-si5Vye1jLrEmzF3zYs/s320/IMG_4777.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5196917409533682002" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQzqe9qFaFK9DxKdIsNMwKlRlUSpO2pTWGRTSg8wV07f915LvbnLfap8vnGJCzhm25ziBLTWZ_Ij4xenVuXWJCyObyXr4kbKT98UwOUPDtKVbXSfI6R1ECQwvbcU-yjFGKn_km/s320/IMG_4780.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5196917422418583906" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyMv6Wx8c16E92jBk20MKt1MK-bWDbH9E5YB96q_VkxZpBVRHjL4FJgvRIplwiTPIY0rJsXnK-oRcfx_OIXdA78wCv3FA7RXxg1Vq0diC4rgSKPyB4k3u_O9YTSre4uTZZVtfC/s320/IMG_4784.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5196917422418583922" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijVMJ4T01K_bLwKWnd-38MeuRW_wFPCqu1KeYp6nh5JhsseXQkXsr7-Ix-hGpcxo17uwTt5rjueXF4oG3O_gkkH2UA3yO_95_tmrPynSvz-7FFMcukVowiyLpBtVfL1fPR1n5E/s320/IMG_4786.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5196919904909681026" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5lujrs8R2Al-dULGrEOBbFb965V9OEaEFTtglADQ0crV0ySYM3NxObFeQVQ5Qic8PDRoSb3-JOASnRQ9s7EEwyvg8Y-B1xZgTCQeUmYKJBitxeMQgZHe7VLnAYKljX0pao7HX/s320/IMG_4843.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5196919909204648338" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-56447181235870675382008-04-30T10:49:00.002-05:002008-04-30T10:57:37.637-05:0005/01/08 Severe Weather?Well it looks like a possible severe weather day tomorrow. It is sort of a strange set up. A split low will throw many wrenches into the set up. Some of the main concerns I have are with low level clouds, lack of SBCAPE, warming 850mb temps and if the moisture can return in time. Some of the things I like are the nicely curved low level hodo, wonderful EHI and 0-3k SRH values of over 300. Will the low occlude? Will there be a forcing mechanism? Will a cap pop up and rear its ugly head? Can we get initiation during the daytime heating or will it initiate after sunset with a stronger LLJ? All things that will be watched closely. We are around 36 hours away from the event and things will look clearer in the morning.

Follow this link to the latest NAM forecast sounding or Chanute, KS.

Later,
MikeUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-9175063903321679872008-04-29T11:15:00.000-05:002008-12-09T00:23:32.565-06:00Practicing Studio PhotographyI set up a mini studio in my living room a couple of weeks ago and took some shots of the girls. I think they turned out better than I expected for sure. The basic set up was a white plush blanket, the back of a couch, a Canon Rebel XTi 400d, a Canon 580EX II and a lot of patience with the girls. For most of the shots I just bounced the flash off the ceiling to get an even light for the shot. There is one of Alli that is a direct flash shot and one of Sarah that is bounced of the wall to camera right. Pretty simple really. I did the post processing with CS2. Most of the PP was using Gaussian blur on the background, adjusting exposure, saturation and levels. I added the vignette and presto. I had the pictures printed at MPIX.com. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!!!! The shipping was done via regular USPS for $4.95 and I received them the next day. WOW!!! The pictures were exactly as I processed them and cropped perfectly. I well never use Walgreen's or Wal-Mart again. Anyway, without further ado, here are some of the pictures I took. Hope you enjoy.

<img style="cursor:pointer; Nothing like a good nights sleep to make a person feel better. As far as the weather goes, I am still feeling a little weird about todays possibilities. My main concern is looking at the 850mb RUC charts. As of 8:45 this morning there is a nice batch of precipitation already heading our way. However, it is all rain. Why? Well, at 850mb it is still above freezing. The RUC, in fact, does not even predict that level to cool off until 21z (3PM CST) today. That means if this precip holds together, then for the next 6 hours we will watch it rain. The latest HPC QPF map shows a nice .66" of QPF right over Ottawa. But, will that verify as rain or frozen precip? Only the speed of the low and the shape of the comma head will determine the snow amount here. We will see. I have no doubt we will see nice precip totals around but will it be frozen or liquid? Such is the fun of forecasting.

My official snow predictions 2" in my backyard. We shall see.

LaterUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-27864124541620872542007-12-20T11:54:00.000-06:002007-12-20T11:55:42.998-06:00Great BlogGary Lezak just put down an excellent blog HERE. The models are all over place from run to run. And even when they finally agree on a solution, like last weekend's storm, it busts. I feel for the on air mets and the NWS whose job it is to inform the public on upcoming inclement weather. People really rely on their knowledge and expertise to keep them informed. Hard job for sure.

Give me a severe weather setup any day over a winter weather set up. I feel a hell of a lot more confident predicting severe weather, and more specifically tornado potential, than trying to figure out how much it will snow. WOW, it is tough for me.

More laterUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-47472095221125811292007-12-19T08:38:00.000-06:002007-12-19T09:31:37.393-06:00Phasing TroughGood Morning,

This morning I am watching a potential strom that will impact me in eastern Kansas sometime Friday night into Saturday. I will discuss in basic terms and with 500mb vorticity charts what the models are predicting.

Picture number 1

As you can see I have circled two pieces of vorticity (energy) that are working their way across the US. For the sake of ease I will call these storm #1 and storm #2. Strom #1 is up in Canada and is predicted to close off and become a full fledged strom while #2 has not closed off and is just beginning to try and wrap up. At this point #2 is called a trough. Now, if #2 were to closed off and look like #1 in the above picture then we would see a substantial snow storm here.

However, look below....

...it does not close off. In fact storm #1 actually sucks in most of the energy that #2 had originally. This is called phasing. #1 actually "ate up" #2. Now if this happens all we will see is a cold front and maybe a passing flurry or two.

If you are a snow lover you are hoping that #2 does not phase with #1. You hope it closes off and becomes its own storm. Could that happen? Yes! Will it happen? Probably not. Our best chance of snow would come from the chance that #2 phases with #1 AFTER it passes us by, not before. We will see if this happens. I predict that it won't and all we see is cold air and clouds from this system.

LaterUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-80891360643495503432007-12-18T09:18:00.000-06:002007-12-18T09:39:40.424-06:00WOW, Lezak lays himself out.....If you are not a regular reader of the KSHB weather blog you should be. It offers incredible insight into what professional TV meteorologist go through when making forecasts for the public. In his latest blog entry found HERE he totally lays himself out for future criticism. I like the bold move, personally. He is a firm believer in a recurring annual weather pattern that he has named the LRC (Lezak Recurring Cycle). I don't feel like explaining it here but it is a non-proven and highly circumstantial theory of a cycling weather pattern that sets up each year and repeats itself on a specific day cycle until it is replaced by a new cycle at the end of every summer. Gary 100% believes in this theory and I love hearing and reading about it when he describes it. His passion for it comes through and it intrigues me to continue to think and study it.

Now for the reason of this new blog. He and his fellow meteorologist, Jeff Penner, have found a very intriguing similarity with the La Nina year of 1959-1960. The long wave troughs and the basic day cycle of that year are very similar to what he and Jeff believe is happening this year. They are not identical but very close matches. In that year Kansas City had one of the snowiest years ever. Since Gary is a HUGE snow and winter lover he gets excited about the possibility of snow and winter precipitation. His conclusion is that since the winter on 59-60 is so similar to the pattern of this year that he believes there is a possibility of a whole lot of snow for this winter season. Only time will tell but man he really opened himself up. As usual, he left himself some outs like "We will stick to our winter forecast which includes 19 inches of snow, but now that we know the pattern better I am expecting it to go over that total, possilby much higher." If it only snow around 19" then he will still claim a victory but at the same time if it snows much more then he is right as well. Sort of.

The models continue to put a storm on our region on Saturday the 22nd. Every run flip flops a little bit toward snow, no snow, then snow again. We are still WAY out so I will continue to check in on this system as it evolves. Needless to say, if the 00z run of last night verifies we will have a very good chance at a white Christmas.

LaterUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-39191306507233648902007-12-15T08:37:00.001-06:002007-12-15T10:40:54.591-06:00BUSTWell, I have seen some crazy busts before but the NWS really had there hands full and missed this one. The Heavy Snow Warning I was under never materialized. I can't really blame them because I was seeing most of the same data they were and not until the later runs of the RUC were coming out did it become apparent that we were going to get dry slotted. I just can't figure out why the models didn't pick up on this earlier. I also can't figure out how we get a dry slot in a storm that really wasn't a storm yet. It was just a trough sliding by our area. I am going to go back and look at some things to see what I missed. We do have the comma head swinging through this morning and we could see some snow accumulations from it. I really don't care what we get from this last gasp of snow. After having modelitis for 16 straight days now I am going on a break to recoup and rest up. My prediction of 6.25" in my backyard is obviously not going to happen. Oh well, you win some you lose some.

LaterUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-28492962558776222442007-12-14T15:59:00.000-06:002007-12-14T16:05:55.469-06:00OK, the GFS officially SUCKS!!!!! If only it would have given us a nice swath of .75 QPF for all of eastern Kansas. Oh well, we can't win them all. I am aware that the off hour runs can be not as accurate but the last NAM and GFS are quite depressing if you are a snow lover. I am holding out hope and am going to switch form model mode to radar mode form here on out. I will glance at the RUC occasionally but my main source of forecasting will now come form looking out the window. Good luck to us snow lovers and I hope that I wake up to 7+ inches and have to slip and slide my way into work tomorrow. Maybe a thought or two later but I doubt it.

LaterUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-44454858417993602872007-12-14T13:49:00.000-06:002007-12-14T13:54:59.620-06:00Alright, the southern part of the Topeka CWA is now under a Heavy Snow Warning. Uhhhh, why now? Why not when the models came out this morning? The new runs aren't coming out for a few more hours. What made them change their mind? Maybe it was a shift change and Blair saw something that the morning forecast didn't. Either way, NWS Topeka is calling for up to 6 inches of snow across the southern portion of their CWA (including me in Ottawa). As usual EAX is always last to update. They wait on ICT and TOP to forecast and match their grids to theirs. I say, be like Gary Lezak and make a forecast 2 days in advance and stick with it. Don't wait for the other people to make your forecast for you.

Later.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-8377363284798713512007-12-14T11:56:00.001-06:002008-12-09T00:23:32.672-06:00Echos already appearing
Well, some echos are already filling in around Dodge City as we speak. For the last few days the GFS has been the bull of the models with the QPF. Now the NAM, which had a very hard time even seeing this storm a few days ago has blown us up with snowfall amounts.

I have a feeling that with colder temps and the possibility of higher ratios we could see a general 4+ inches for the whole KC area. Since I live in Ottawa, I am going to put my forecast for my backyard at.......6.25 inches. I will take some pictures of the total and post later to see just how close I came. There is no doubt that there is potential for some insane amounts of snow south of KC along the I35 corridor. Some models put more than a foot of the white stuff in Linn co. We shall see and I will begin to keep this blog more updated with my thought from now on.

MikeUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-1175724829658886202007-04-04T17:10:00.000-05:002007-04-04T17:13:49.670-05:00Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-1161359715437902642006-10-20T10:23:00.000-05:002006-10-20T10:55:15.470-05:00Pups & a PicnicI went out to take some shots of a litter of pups that some friends are trying to sell. They wanted to use the pics to put on the internet to help get rid of them. They were cute pups but I had more fun shooting the family having a picnic afterwords than the dogs.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-1157649728244443202006-09-07T12:13:00.000-05:002006-09-07T12:22:08.266-05:00So it has been 4 months....So what. It is not like anybody reads this thing anyway. Ohh wait, we have a new reader today. It is none other than Yolanda form Cap One. Let's all take the time and make her feel welcome. Welcome aboard Yolanda. I am sure you will fit right in here with the other random readers. Now on to other business. I was randomly selected as the 12th place participant in last Sunday's FF draft. Well, if you didn't want me to play you just could have asked me not to participate this year. Being 12th out of 12 teams just freaking killed my team. I suck. I got no one. I am the crappiest team in the league.

In conclusion, work is good, kids are great, wife is the best, weather is boring, got a new lens for the camera, can't wait for next spring. Maybe a big blizzard will get me excited this winter. Holy crap, I just realized, it is another 8 damn months until May. I am screwed. I will never make it through another boring ass winter. I need convection!!! I am back after a month off of chasing. I was on an outflow boundary in Eastern Kansas yesterday. The first cell of the day erupted just south of Iola, Kansas and moved straight East. As it entered Bourbon Co. it went tornado warned. I left Iola behind the storm driving East on Hwy 54. I fought the core of this storm from La Harpe to past Bronson. My thought process decided that I was never going to exit the core and that the show was going to stay south of 54 anyway. The road network in extreme Eastern Kansas is not great by any stretch so I decided that I would not have a real chance to get into any position on that cell. Turning around and heading back West on 54 and towers were bubbling in front of me. I made my way to Moran and went South on 59 for 2 miles. Looking West from 59 a decent updraft with wall cloud was visible. I positioned myself in three different locations over the next 30 minutes and took these shots. The storm never really cleared itself from the convection to its East or the new stuff firing to the West. The cell eventually split and died right as it entered the city of Moran. Overall a decent storm to photograph and much thanks to Eric B'Hymer for the nowcasting. Here are some pics below. Click to enlarge.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-1144270248471092632006-04-05T15:27:00.000-05:002006-04-05T15:50:48.483-05:00Long Time Since Last PostWow, it has been a while since I last posted here. I have been very busy and this has not been a priority. I was in Arkansas for a few days for a training seminar. Holy crap, Arkansas has some weird people. It is like taking the average Missourian and multiplying them times stupid 4 times. Here is an idea if you are from Arkansas: BRUSH YOUR TOOTH!!! For heavens sake, it is the only one you got left. Don't get me wrong, Arkansas has some really nice country side (in fact I was quite impressed with the size of the hills there). On another note, before you brush your tooth, learn to speak English. I swear, I am form Texas so I can understand twang, but holy shiznit, they speak some sort of backasswords mumble that only other inbred people from their village can understand. Don't even get me started on the monopolist bastard of a company Wal Mart. The nerve of those assholes making corporations build their corporate headquarters in Bentonville if they want to business with Wal Mart. What a bunch of horse crock. It must be working though, as I drove through that town there are new buildings going up EVERYWHERE. I still think they are a bunch of greedy old people who don't really give a crap about small town America or the mom and pop stores they put out of business. Well that is enough about my Arkansas rant.

On to other things. The system moving in tomorrow is very powerful. I do believe at this point that the cap will be strong enough to thwart any convection until the dry line pushes past me and into Missouri. Don't get me wrong, there is still a shot that storms could initiate right over me but there is no way I am gonna chase tornadic storms into Missouri at night while they are moving 55+. Screw that. Poor Missouri is gonna get pounded again. Hey, if you want to see a tornado I can virtually guarantee you a sighting. Just go to Sedalia, MO and wait with your camera. It is not there year this year. I think the city itself has already been hit by 3 separate tornado's in a 2 week span. What are the odds.

In conclusion, this entry was about saying that Arkansas sucks and that Missouri is gonna die. Later.

On a side note, I have typed this whole thing with one eye. I have been seeing this spot in my vision that wont go away. Anyway, it turns out I have something called a "Floater". Even though the doctor explained it to me, I still don't have any clue what the hell it is. Basically, if it get worse or i start seeing flashes and other stuff it could mean my retina is detaching. Great, can't wait for that to happen. Back to why I am only using one eye. He dilated my left eye. I can not hate much more on this Earth more than that. What a pain in the ass. I can not see shit out of my left eye. All blurry and it hurts like a son of a bitch cuz it is so bright in my office now. I refuse to wear those damn wrap around plastic sheets they call sunglasses. I would never hear the end of it. So, I would rather have a painful blurry dilated eye blasting out of my head. That's it now.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-1143213450997465452006-03-24T09:02:00.000-06:002006-03-24T09:17:31.013-06:00Ka Boom!Well, there goes the neighborhood. Again. GFS is painting an insane set up again for next Thursday. Eerily reminiscent to the March 12th setup. If it verifies another outbreak could be in order. Let's hope it sets up a little farther West this time. It will be very interesting to watch this system pan out.

On another note, how about the Longhorn's victory last night. What an awesome game. I was so pumped up about it I could not go to sleep 'til after 2 am. When Pittsnogle hit that three with 5 seconds left to tie the game I thought we were done. No way we keep up with there insane 3 point shooting into overtime. Then a miracle happened. AJ ran the ball up the court, found Paulino on the left arch. With .8 seconds left on the clock the ball left KP's hand. The red light flashed on around the backboard and "SWISH". Texas moves on to the Elite 8. Absolutely incredible game to watch. Instant classic for sure. I don't know how many more games they will win (maybe none) but that game will forever be etched in my memory. Much like the '91 Sweet 16 when Texas lost to Michigan on a buzzer beater. That damn game still bugs me. Hopefully we will continue on in the tournament. Especially since the Duke cry babies are now out of it. Nebraska gets the snow measured in feet on Monday and then the Wednesday night system brings several inches of snow to Oklahoma. Damn the luck and being caught in the middle. I don't know why I love snow so much. Maybe it is because I grew up in Texas and rarely saw the white stuff. I now live in Kansas and expect to see it and it never happens. Oh well. Maybe next year. Bring on the tornadoes. I believe we are in a slow period for the next several weeks. The weather boards will once again be bantered with the pessimistic ideas of a crappy season and no storms. Then alas, around the 10th of May the short waves will eject, the moisture will abound, the dry lines will erupt, the triple point will be chased and the 3 weeks that follow will be exciting and terrifying all at the same time. I predict this May to be historic in nature. No, I don't say that every year. In fact, this is the first prediction I have ever made. I don't know why I am calling for it, but I just am. We will see though. I am also predicting a mini season at the end of June into the first part of July. There, it is all down for the world to reticule and discuss. Call me on it or don't. I don't care. Congratulations to those that got the snow and pity me who didn't. Sorry there is nothing real interesting lately. Maybe that will change soon. Could it really be a snow STORM coming into Eastern Kansas this weekend into next Tuesday? Honestly, I don't know. I do know that it is at least possible to see at least some snow by midweek next week. This is freaking crazy. First, the warmest January EVER, then the driest February EVER, then the craziest tornado outbreak in MO history, and now the possibility of more than a foot of snow. Somebody pinch me. This is too cool. Texas and Oklahoma look like they are gonna get plenty of rain out of this. That is some great news. We need the drought to go away down there in a bad way. This will be an extremely interesting next 5 to 6 days ahead of us. I will talk more about it as I gain more confidence in the forecast.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-1142282715994694722006-03-13T13:42:00.000-06:002006-03-13T14:45:16.013-06:00Historic DayYesterday was a historic day. The outbreak that occurred was absolutely fascinating to watch. I would like to extend my condolences to the families of the people that were killed and to the people that lost property. Missouri just kept getting wave after wave of pretty discreet thunderstorms that were all rotating and dropping tornadoes. Most of the initiation was occurring in Eastern Kansas and rolling into Missouri where the conditions were outstanding for tornado production. I stayed in Eastern Kansas and witnessed the initiation of a bunch of storms. Everyone of them had at least light rotation and wall clouds of some sort. I did not chase any of them but rather just let them roll over me. I had a sick family and had to stay close to home to help out. As of this post, the SPC has a preliminary count of 113 tornadoes touching down and at least 6 deaths. The pics below are all from Franklin County and all are cells that were just initiating. I find myself bored to death with no real shot of severe weather for my neck of the woods for some time. What to do. I know, I will pick something to complain about. Nah, too easy. I think I will just dream about my wish list of goodies. I want to get a Cannon 17-40L lens for my camera and the Sony DCR-DVD505K camcorder. I have to compromise with my wife on the camcorder. The ease of recording on a DVD and then being able to plop the disk right into the player really appeals to her. I am not sure of the editing format of the Sony but if it is at all manageable it is what I am going for. Plus, the 3 mega pixel isn't to shabby for that price range. If I shop hard enough I could probably find the 17-40 for around $650 and the Sony for around $850. Gee, $1500 and I will be set. LOL. That is why they call it a "wish list". I can hear my wife now, "Let's see honey, a new lens for your damn camera or food for the kids? I think you can live without your toys for a while." Great, can't wait for that conversation. I will prevail, though. Enough of my whining and the lens is mine!! Well, that is my plan anyway.

Take care.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23127137.post-1141920721074883382006-03-09T09:40:00.000-06:002006-03-09T11:09:55.726-06:00I Pee FreelyWell, it was good to get out in the country where I could chase storms and pee on the side of the road without the fear of prosecution. It was a weird set up yesterday. A high cirrus cloud blanket moved in mid-afternoon and snuffed out most of the insulation that was occurring in Eastern Kansas. Bummer! I decided to chase the dry line setup vs. the low that was spinning up through extreme NE Kansas and NW Missouri. I figured tor chances were low either way so I might as well stay close to the area I knew best and still be home in time for dinner. Well, maybe a little late. I left Iola at a quarter til 5 pm and headed north to Garnett, KS. The dry line was pushing east.

As you can see, the cirrus blanket was high and mighty.

Headed NE on the advice of my nowcaster for the day, Ann Money. Gee, thanks Ann, LOL. Got to Osawatomie and decided I needed to be further east for the cell that was developing over Allen and Bourbon Counties. Got to La Cygne and headed north on 69 to exit 399th St. Got in position (which was NW of the storm) and took these pics of the mammatus and a decent sunset. Because of the angle of the sun, the clouds turned a really nice shade of orange. The only processing done was a little USM to 3 of the pics. The most adrenaline filled moment was not the lightning, thunder, or beautiful structure, but the herd of deer I almost plowed into at 70mph on the way home. Damn, we a longer rifle season here in Kansas. Thanks to my weather weenie mom Ann for the on the fly info. Ended up being a good practice session for the new camera as well.
